"Speech language therapy can have a huge impact on your life; at school, at work, at home and in the community.
Communication is the key to everything."
Hi, I'm Mel, speech language therapist at Speech Central.
Communication is at the heart of who we are and how we interact with the world around us. As a speech therapist, I believe in evidence-based, practical intervention that is tailored to the needs of anyone dealing with communication difficulties. Working alongside a child (or adult) and their family is the best way to achieve goals and really make a difference for that individual.
I have 10+ years experience working with a variety of clients, previously across the wider Auckland region for the Auckland District Health Board and more recently here in Taupō with Speech Central. I currently enjoy a great deal of variety in my work as a speech language therapist, working with children's speech and language difficulties, adults with acquired language difficulties (following stroke), people with communication difficulties after brain injury and adults with voice disorders.
I am also the Community Aphasia* Advisor for AphasiaNZ Charitable Trust in the Central Lakes area. provding support and raising awareness for people with aphasia. *Aphasia is an acquired language disorder often resulting from stroke.
I am a mum to 2 young boys and we live locally in Taupō. My husband and I relocated our family here several years ago to enjoy a more balanced lifestyle and to embrace our love of the outdoors.
